Aim

1. The promotion and encouragement of art and culture in Lutherstadt Wittenberg and other places through the public exhibition of the foundation’s collection of graphic arts with Christian themes from classic modernism.


2. The organization of competitions to which artists are invited to offer works on  Christian subjects. One work is to be purchased at a price set by the board of directors and committee depending on the earnings of the foundation.

 

Content

The Stiftung Christliche Kunst Wittenberg was founded in July 2001 by Dr. Gisela Meister-Scheufelen and Dr. Ulrich Scheufelen. It has an unusual collection of graphic arts on Christian subjects by internationally known 20th century artists. Prominent are the works of Marc Chagall "The Bible", Otto Dix "Ecco homo", Max Pechstein "The ‘Our Father’”, Emil Nolde "Prophet", Max Beckmann "Christ and Pilate", George Grosz "Christ on the Cross, surrounded by Soldiers", Georges Rouault "Passion", and Joseph Beuys "I Dreamt that Christianity Has a Chance Now".
